Metropolis Report-
On Thursday evening in Dhaka, two leaders of the Dhaka University Chhatra League were apprehended and later turned over to the police in front of the Kali Mondir under Shahbagh police station while they were extorting money from a group of attendees who had traveled from Chandpur to the Ekushey Book Fair.
Rajib Hossen Robin and Mohaimenul Islam Emon are the two detainees, who are the vice presidents of the Chhatra League in each of their respective halls — Sergeant Johrul Houque Hall and Master Da Surja Sen Hall.
According to police, these two Dhaka University students stopped a group of book fair attendees, posing as police officers. The BCL leaders accused the visitors of drug dealing and examined their bodies.
When the BCL leaders did not discover any narcotics, they snatched the entire Tk 1500 from the guests. The snatchers returned Tk 600 and attempted to flee the scene on a motorcycle when the victims indicated they had no money to get back to Chandpur, according to sources.
Shahbagh Police said, ‘The snatchers were caught red-handed, and we have taken a bike from them. Because the victims have lodged a complaint with Shahbagh police station, we have detained them in prison. Steps will be taken against them.’
