Income inequality in Bangladesh has increased, creating two societies – one low-income group and the other high-income one.
Debapriya Bhattacharya, convenor of the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of equality in development for building a humanistic society.
She called for public commitments to development before the election and has 11 agendas to share with journalists.
The platform started monitoring progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals five years ago and has four agendas shared in Dhaka.
Regarding health expenditure, 67% of Bangladesh’s population carries it from their own pockets, while the state bears the rest.
In 2016, 4.5% of the population went below the poverty line to meet health expenditures.
