A study by the Bangladesh Institute of Labor Studies has revealed that 21% of female domestic workers in Dhaka experience physical abuse at work, and 91% don’t know about the hotline number 999 for gender-based violence.
The study, which surveyed 465 domestic workers, found that 67% face mental torture and 61% get verbal harassment.
The report also revealed that only 7% receive maternity leave, and 84% live below the poverty line.
The study highlights the challenges faced by domestic workers due to their exclusion from the Bangladesh Labor Act and the lack of a law on the Domestic Workers Protection and Welfare Policy 2015.
