23 Killed in Suicide Attack on Pakistani Army Base: Official

Metropolis Desk-

An organization affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing and shooting incident that took place on Tuesday at a police station in northwest Pakistan, killing 23 security personnel and injuring several others, according to officials.

Aizaz Mehmood, an official of the state-run rescue service, reported that 28 people were injured in the attack that occurred in the Dera Ismail Khan district, which is on the edge of the lawless tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.

He continued, “We continue to hear gunshots.”

According to anonymous district administration sources, the militants first launched a gun attack inside the police station before smashing a car packed with explosives through the main gate.

The Tahreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), a newly formed Pakistani Taliban group, claimed in a statement that its fighters carried out the attack targeted at the Pakistani army. However, neither the military nor officials had confirmed the target.

It was not immediately apparent if this group is associated with the main Islamist and sectarian militant organization Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has been attacking the government and its agencies for years to topple the current administration and install their strict interpretation of Islamic law in its place.
