A Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier MV ZHE HAI has docked at Mongla Port with 26,620 tonnes of coal for the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat.
According to Khandaker Reazul Haque, assistant manager of Togi Shipping and Logistics Limited Khulna, the ship’s local shipping agent, the coal-carrying vessel arrived at Harbaria of the port at 5:00 am today after traveling from Indonesia for 19 days.
He added that work on Saturday morning had already begun on the unloading and transportation of coal. At the Rampal Thermal Power Station Jetty, the coal that has been discharged is being lightered. Through its jetty grabber, coal is removed from transportation (from barges/lighterage) and stored in the coal shed or godown of the center through mechanical belts.
Previously, on 16th May, the Bangladeshi flag-bearing vessel MV Boshundhara Empress arrived at Mongla Port carrying 30,000 tonnes of coal, and on 29th May, MV Boshundhara Majesty arrived with 30,500 tonnes of coal for the Rampal power plant.
A severe coal shortage forced the closure of the Payra Thermal Power Plant on June 5 and the Bhashkhali Thermal Power Plant yesterday.
