47 Stranded Bangladeshis Repatriated from War-Torn Lebanon

Today, forty-seven more stranded Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated from war-torn Lebanon at the full expense of the government.

They arrived on Qatar Airways flight QR 640, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 9:15 am. This operation was facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). To date, a total of 1,246 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from Lebanon on 19 flights, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Welfare, along with IOM representatives, were present at the airport to welcome the returnees.

IOM provided each returnee with Tk 5,000 in pocket money, food supplies, and basic medical care.

Ministry officials engaged with the returnees, listening to their stories about the ongoing conflict and inquiring about their well-being.

Meanwhile, one Bangladeshi national is reported to have lost their life in a bombing incident during the conflict.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to covering the costs of repatriation for all Bangladeshis wishing to return from Lebanon amid the ongoing violence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of those seeking repatriation and to protect those who choose to remain.
