Gazipur City Corporation elections will be held on May 25, Khulna and Barishal city corporations’ elections will be held on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations’ elections will be held on June 21.
At a meeting of election commissioners on Monday, Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced that voting in the five city corporation elections will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm using electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The EC secretary noted that all of the centers will also have CCTV cameras installed. The decision was made on Monday during a meeting of the Election Commission, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal.
The conference was attended by Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana, Md. Alamgir, and Md. Anisur Rahman, election commissioners. In accordance with the decisions, EC employees will use tablet computers to notify the commission of the elections. The returning officers for all municipal elections will be members of the commission.
Gazipur: The timetable states that the deadline for submitting election candidate nomination papers is April 27 and that the nomination papers will be reviewed on April 30. The statement states that May 8 is the final day to withdraw candidacy.
Barishal and Khulna: May 16 is the deadline for submitting nomination papers. The deadline for withdrawing a nomination is May 25, and the nomination papers will be scrutinized on May 18.
Sylhet and Rajshahi: The submission deadline for nomination papers is May 23. The nomination papers will be examined on May 25, and applicants will have until June 1 to withdraw their nominations.
