An anchored launch on the Meghna River in Chandpur today resulted in the recovery of five dead bodies and three critically injured individuals.
The incident took place on the Meghna river in the Chandpur Sadar upazila, which is close to Shariatpur, according to Mohammad Mohsin Uddin, the deputy commissioner of Chandpur.
According to the DC, which cited Chandpur River Police, five people were found dead and three injured.
Around 3 p.m., the bodies were found on board the MV Al-Bakhera, a ship transporting fertilizer from Chattogram to Dhaka, according to Chandpur River Police Superintendent Md. Mushfiqur Rahman.
He explained, “The launch was attacked by miscreants at some time last night or today, when they indiscriminately hacked eight people on the launch and left.”
Law enforcement, including the coast guard and river police, retrieved the bodies and critically injured individuals from the launch after receiving information. He added that each dead body was discovered in a different room.
According to the police official, the wounded have been taken to Chandpur Govt General Hospital.
The identities of the victims and the cause of the incident were unknown at the time this report was written.
