Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five militants while exchanging fire with new terrorist group ‘Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya’ from Remakri bridge in Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila.
Nine Rab men also sustained injuries in the incident.
Rab Director General M Khurshid Hossain revealed the information at a press conference at Toma Tungi under Thanchi area on Tuesday.
Being informed that a gang will cross Remakri bridge in the morning , six patrol teams of Rab took positions in different areas near Remakri bridge, he said.
He said militants exchanged fires with Rab members while crossing the bridge in the morning.
“They detained five members of the elite force during the drive. But nine members of RAB sustained injuries,” said the Rab official.
