Dainik Dinkal puts an end to publication

Metropolis Report-

As a government suspension order was upheld, the broadsheet Bangla-language newspaper The Dainik Dinkal stopped printing.

The daily claimed the Dhaka district authorities ordered the closure on December 26, but it continued to print after filing an appeal at the Press Council, which is presided over by a senior judge from the High Court, according to AFP.

The district magistrate’s order to halt the daily’s publishing was upheld by the council on Sunday, according to Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, managing editor of the newspaper.

The decree stated that the newspaper’s printing permission had been revoked because it had broken the nation’s printing and publication laws.

The council said that Tarique Rahman, the publisher and the acting BNP chief, was a convicted felon who was still holding onto his position while residing abroad.

Tarique Rahman offered his resignation and made a new publisher but the authorities rejected the changes, according to Biswas.
