After laying wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Manikganj Sadar upazila today, leaders and members of the Awami League’s front organizations, the Sramik League, Jubo League, and Swechchhasebak League, got into a fight.
According to eyewitnesses, the altercation between Abdul Jalil and Babul Sarkar’s supporters of the Sramik League began at about 9:30 am. Eventually, the Swechchhasebak League and the Jubo League also joined the altercation.
The Manikganj district Sramik League has two committees. A matter involving the legality of a committee is currently in court, sources said.
Both Babul Sarkar and Abdul Jalil identify themselves as the president of the district Sramik League. As Babul Sarkar’s name was revealed as the leader of the Swechchhasebak League after wreaths had been laid at the Shaheed Minar, Jalil’s supporters attacked.
Leaders of the party attempted to break up the fights but were unsuccessful. To stabilize the situation, police had to step in. No complaints have been made in this respect yet, police said.
