According to State Minister for Labor and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, arrears-paying tea garden employees will receive Tk11,000 in a lump sum.
A circular bearing Director General Khaled Mamun Chowdhury’s signature was released on Wednesday evening.
According to the circular, State Minister Begum Monnujan Sufian met in the conference room of the Labor building in the capital’s Bijoynagar with officials of the Bangladesh Tea Association and the Bangladesh Tea Workers’ Union to discuss the issue of tea workers’ arrears payments.
She then stated that each tea worker would receive a lump sum payment of Tk 11,000 to make up the arrears.
This sum will be paid out by the management authority in three payments, the first due on March 7. The owner and the tea workers will consult to determine when the final two installments are to be paid.
