The Editors Guild has established a formal committee, with The Business Standard Editor Inam Ahmed serving as general secretary and Ekattor Television Editor-in-Chief Mozammel Babu as president.
According to a press release from the guild, the committee established at its general meeting on Sunday night will work for the following two years.
Its advisory council now includes senior journalist Toab Khan, Daily Jagoron Editor Abed Khan, Daily Ajker Patrika Editor Golam Rahman, and Daily Ittefaq Editor Tasmima Hossain.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Editor-in-Chief Abul Kalam Azad, Daily Sangbad Editor Altamash Kabir, DBC Television Editor-in-Chief Manzurul Islam, Amader Orthoneeti Editor-in-Chief Naimul Islam Khan, DOT magazine Editor Mustapha Khalid Palash, Daily Jugantor Editor Saiful Alam, Bangladesh Journal Editor Shahjahan Sardar, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, News Bangla Editor Swadesh Roy, and bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi are the presidium members.
Gazi Television Editor-in-Chief Syed Ishtiaque Reza and Desh TV Editor Sukanta Gupta have been made joint secretaries, Bangla Tribune Editor Zulfiqer Russell organizing secretary, and Asian Age Editorial Board Chairman Shoeb Chowdhury treasurer.
ATN News Chief Executive Editor Munni Saha, Amader Notun Shomoy Editor Nasima Khan Monti, Maasranga Television Chief of News Rejoanul Haq, Bangladesh Post Chief Editor Sharif Shahab Uddin, and ATN Bangla Chief Executive Editor ZI Mamun have also been appointed as members of the executive committee.
In 2018, The Editors Guild, Bangladesh began its journey. Editors and executives from news organizations and outlets from various media make up the group. On December 21 of that same year, Toufique Imrose Khalidi was appointed the chairman of the committee’s convening committee. Since January 4, 2019, Khalidi has also held the office of the guild’s founding president.
A full-fledged committee could not be formed at the time due to the coronavirus epidemic, despite Mozammel Babu being named the new president in March 2020.
