Business journal STAR Market Daily said on Friday that tech titan Alibaba is looking for organizations to test its Tongyi Qianwen AI chatbot, joining the race to replicate ChatGPT’s meteoric success.
The public was introduced to ChatGPT in November of last year. It is a large language model (LLM) program that can produce articles and essays on demand in response to user prompts.
Alibaba has made it possible for companies to register in order to test out its AI application, according to a report from STAR Market that omitted further information.
According to Reuters, an insider with knowledge of the situation revealed that the application was an LLM geared toward business customers.
On Friday, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba posted a teaser on social media with the simple message: “Hello, my name is Tongyi Qianwen, this is our first time meeting, I welcome your opinion.”
In order to request an invitation, visitors can enter their phone numbers and email addresses in boxes on the chatbot application’s official website, but no further information about how it would be used is given.
An email request for comment from Alibaba Cloud was not immediately answered.
Tuesday’s Alibaba Cloud event is anticipated to mark its official debut. The event will feature remarks from Daniel Zhang, the CEO of the Alibaba Group and its cloud subsidiary.
Baidu Inc., whose Ernie Bot program is now only available to trial customers, is one of the other companies that have entered the AI chatbot race.
Huawei Technologies, a manufacturer of networking equipment, is to host an event on Saturday to introduce Pangu, an AI model for natural language processing (NLP).
Also, SenseTime is hosting a demonstration of “leading-edge developments in AI software” the following week.
Alibaba revealed this week that it would split into six independent entities, each with its own board and CEO. Zhang will continue in his role as CEO of the cloud division.
