Desk Report –
Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was wounded in the foot on Thursday during a political event, but he is recovering well, according to a top aide.
Raoof Hasan, Khan’s senior adviser, said that Khan was hit by bullets fired from the crowd in the city of Gujranwala, reports AFP.
“This was an attempt to kill him, to assassinate him,” Hasan said, adding that one alleged attacker had been shot dead and a second taken into police custody.
Since last Friday, Khan has been leading a march from the city of Lahore to the capital Islamabad in support of new elections after being forced from power this spring.
The 70-year-old Khan has been carrying a shipping container behind a lorry for the duration of his so-called “long march,” speaking to large crowds in towns and cities along the way while standing on the open top of the container.
