Metropolis Report-
The body of an elephant was found Saturday morning in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila’s Bakakura area of the Garo Hills by police and forest officials.
A herd of elephants crossed the border from India and invaded the area before raiding paddy fields and inflicting significant damage to the crops, said locals.
Locals discovered the male elephant, which was roughly four years old, dead in a muddy boro field and alerted police and forest officials. Upon receiving information, officers responded immediately and found the body at about 10:00 am, according to police.
The elephant may have been electrocuted by traps set up by farmers to protect their produce from similar attacks, said a Rangtia range officer.
The official also stated that several electric lines and galvanized iron (GI) were taken from the area. The upazila nirbahi officer in Jhenaigati visited the scene and stated that the necessary steps will be done after getting the autopsy result.
