According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the deep depression lingering over the southeast Bay of Bengal today became Cyclone Mocha and was moving at eight kilometers per hour toward the north-northwest. The cyclone’s center was 1,210 kilometers from Cox’s Bazar.
Later today, Mocha is anticipated to become a very strong cyclonic storm before turning back towards the north-northeast on May 12.
The cyclone will attain its peak strength on May 13 before weakening slightly on May 14. It would then travel between Cox’s Bazar and Kyaukpyu along the beaches of northwestern Myanmar and south-eastern Bangladesh with a maximum sustained speed of 120–135 km/h with gusts as high as 145 km/h.
