Tropical cyclone Mocha hit Saint Martin’s Island and the Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district, where it caused about 2,000 dwellings to be completely demolished and over 10,000 to be partially damaged, according to state minister for disaster management and relief Dr. Enamur Rahman.
He told reporters at the Secretariat that no casualties had been reported for the authorities’ success in relocating vulnerable individuals from cyclone-prone areas to shelters.
According to the state minister, the wind speed at Saint Martin’s Island and Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf during the extremely severe cyclonic storm Mocha was 148 km/h and 80 km/h, respectively.
