The US is contributing $250,000 to help with Cyclone Mocha emergency relief efforts in the worst-affected regions of the nation.
In a statement released on Wednesday, US Ambassador Peter Haas said the people of the United States stand with the people of Bangladesh and the Rohingya refugees affected by the cyclone.
According to the statement, on May 14, Cyclone Mocha made landfall in Myanmar and Bangladesh after moving through the Bay of Bengal, affecting roughly 500,000 Bangladeshis residing in coastal parts of south-eastern Bangladesh and almost a million Rohingyas in refugee camps.
The storm, which caused large tidal surges, heavy rain, and winds of up to 140 kph in Bangladesh, led to severe wind damage, flooding, and landslides, it added. It was one of the greatest storms in recent memory.
