Decline in Power Generation Adds to Power Outage

Metropolis Report-

Officials with the government-owned Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) claim that 1,451 MW of load shedding occurred in the country at midday on Monday to meet a demand of 13,300 MW.

Through its generation units, the BPDB was able to provide the highest capacity of 11,849 MW, according to their claims.

According to BPDB officials, the demand is expected to increase to 14,900 MW (generation end) during Tuesday’s evening peak hours, while the maximum generation will be 14,937 MW and there will be a surplus of 37 MW in the generation.

The forecast, according to officials, never corresponds to the actual situation because load shedding throughout the country is consistently higher than the estimate.

A senior official with the BPDB stated that “in most cases, the actual amount of load shedding does not come in the official figure.”

Customers in Dhaka city and other areas claimed that they were experiencing power disruptions for longer than six hours each day.

According to BPDB’s official figures, the organization had to load-shrink 586 MW on Monday night because there was a 14,203 MW demand and 13,617 MW supply. They said that the decline in power production is caused by a scarcity of coal and gas.
