Under a bilateral migration and mobility agreement, Italy has committed to accepting skilled workers from Bangladesh, especially for the construction, shipbuilding, and hospitality industries in Italy.
A press release states that this was made at the political consultations on June 7 in Rome. The Italian side expressed happiness that now over 46% of workers covered by the Flussi Decree are traveling from Bangladesh to Italy for seasonal and non-seasonal work.
The very first political consultations between Bangladesh and Italy took place on June 7 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome.
Both the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Secretary General, Riccardo Guariglia, and Foreign Secretary, Masud Bin Momen, represented their respective sides at the consultations.
A Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Bangladesh and Italy was signed before the Political Consultations by Foreign Secretary Momen and Secretary-General Guariglia.
Both nations indicated a strong willingness to strengthen their ties and continue working together in a variety of fields, including commerce and investment, technological advancements in Bangladesh’s textile industry, defense and security cooperation, ICT, agriculture, migration, mobility, etc. Additionally, all parties pledged to stop illegal immigration into Italy.
The Italian side thanked Bangladesh for hosting the Rohingyas and promised to continue providing humanitarian aid and assisting in their safe, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.
The Italian side also indicated a wish to collaborate closely with Bangladesh as a partner in the Indo-Pacific region within the framework of IORA.
