The Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) project is being carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP) concept. Two Dhaka city corporations requested a revenue split from the project, but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rejected their request.
According to sources, the PM took these decisions on Thursday during a meeting with DEE project officials and consultants. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam were also present.
Due to the 20-kilometer elevated structure’s passage across their respective jurisdictions, the two mayors had been pressing for a piece of the DEE project.
Additionally, they asked for the elimination of some ramps, particularly those at Polashi and Panthakunjo, arguing that they would worsen traffic congestion and cause flooding.
The project officials and experts were given a directive by the prime minister to examine the 14 piers being built behind the Hotel Sonargaon to make sure they do not infringe on the water body.
