Metropolis Report –

Bangladesh and Denmark have decided to collaborate on investments in sustainable development and green and clean technologies.

On June 9 (Friday), in Copenhagen, there was a discussion of this at the Second Bangladesh-Denmark Political Consultations.

Denmark has expressed a strong desire to expand its partnership with Bangladesh in the areas of agro-food processing, maritime, ICT, the Blue Economy, sustainable urbanization, energy efficiency, circular economy, and climate change adaptation.

At the Political Consultations, the respective side was led by Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Lotte Machon, State Secretary for Development Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

According to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, both parties stressed how crucial it is to make doing business in Bangladesh easier to attract more Danish investment.

By the Sustainable and Green Framework Engagement that the two nations agreed on last year, the Political Consultations authorized a joint action plan between Denmark and Bangladesh for the years 2023–2028.

The Joint Action Plan will be unveiled during the 12–13 June 2023 visit to Bangladesh by Dan Jorgensen, the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy.

The Bangladeshi side emphasized the value of scientific and technological cooperation, particularly in higher education at Danish institutions for Bangladeshi students and training for Danish law enforcement authorities on cybercrime prevention, the digital economy, startups, etc.

Both parties discussed current political developments in Bangladesh and Denmark as well as several international and regional subjects of shared concern and interest, including the Rohingya crisis, the Indo-Pacific, the conflict in Ukraine, and climate change.

Following the political consultations, Danish State Secretary for Trade and Global Sustainability Lina Gandlose Hansen and Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Ambassador Masud Bin Momen met formally to discuss methods to increase Danish investment in Bangladesh.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Denmark Shahidul Karim joined the Political Consultations together with others, including Director General (West Europe & EU) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kazi Russel Pervez, Ambassador-designate of Denmark to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller, and Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen (virtually).
