Metropolis Desk-

Ariana DeBose, an Oscar winner and nominee for a Tony Award, served as the ceremony’s emcee when the Tony Awards, which recognize the best of Broadway, were handed out on Sunday.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) is now on strike, and DeBose, who also presented the Tony Awards the previous year, noted that the event was taking place without any scripts.

Near the start of the show, DeBose said, “Award shows are traditionally written by members of the WGA; as a result, for this show to go on, a whole host of people had to come together to find a compromise.” I am both live and unscripted. You’re most welcome! Therefore, I say, “Darlings buckle up! ” to anyone who thought that last year was a little out of control.

The top award winners for the evening included “Kimberly Akimbo” for the best new musical, “Leopoldstadt” for best new play, “Parade” for best musical revival, and “Topdog/Underdog” for best play revival.
