‘Piran Bangladesh’ (PB) initially started out as a fashion design studio with the initial goal to empower the local artisan community and popularize our glorious local heritage to the urban people. In two years of operation, they worked in several parts of Bangladesh to observe the production process of local textiles and incorporate these unique textiles with modern fashion ideas to create products that are trendy, comfortable and naturally suitable to our climate.

Co-Founder of Piran Bangladesh: Zarin Tasnim Reza

Co-Founder of Piran Bangladesh: Nazifa Tabassum

Zarin Tasnim Reza, a textile engineer and fashion designer, co-founded Piran with her sibling Nazifa Tabassum, an architect and a multi-disciplinary design professional. A strong affiliation and fascination for the intricate craft and culture of Bangladesh drove them to start the venture. The ultimate vision of the Piran is not only doing business but also establishing the brand as a sanctuary of our heritage. They plan to prioritize collecting all the stories behind the making of Bangladeshi fabrics and crafts, establishing articles and documentaries on every story and exhibiting in virtual and offline media.

Talking about their venture, one of the co-founders, Nazifa Tabassum mentioned, “the legacy of fine craftsmanship goes way back to the 1st Century. With the advancement of industrialization, crafts and such delicate fabrics are now lost art. Through ventures like this we may bring back the trace of the lost glory of our ancestors.”

Their product line includes:

Jamdani:
Outfits like tops, gowns, blouses, kurti, panjabi, waistcoats, koti, etc. for both women and men. Depending on the characteristics of the fabrics, our dresses are designed carefully by incorporating different motifs of both new and upcycled Jamdani.

Kantha:
Lightweight quilts locally known as Katha. The collection includes kantha stitched comfortable clothing. The design is generated by PB team and executed by a community of female artisans from North Bengal.

 Khesh:
Dress collection with recycled Khesh fabric, which are weaved mixed with “jut” and fresh yarn.

Jewellaries:
Wooden and acrylic jewellaries
