The Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics (BSVS) 2022, released on Tuesday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), shows that the country’s child mortality rate immensely increased in 2018 compared to 2021.
According to the most recent figures, life expectancy has increased throughout the same period, rising from 72.3 to 72.4 years.
Children under the age of five had a 28 per thousand mortality rate in 2021. By 2022, it had reached 31. At the same time, we saw an increase in the number of infant fatalities from 22 per thousand to 25 per thousand.
“It is not anticipated that child mortality will rise. There could be a lot of causes. The health ministry should take action to reduce it,” when speaking at the opening event as a special guest, the state minister for planning Shamsul Alam said.
