Metropolis Desk –
In the wake of a boat taking family home from a wedding sinking in a river, more than 100 people have perished in north-central Nigeria, according to police and local authorities on Tuesday.
Although details of the catastrophe in Kwara State were still being revealed, it was the most recent boat tragedy to occur in Nigeria, where overloading, low safety precautions, and significant flooding during the rainy season frequently cause rivers to capsize.
The riverboat was transporting passengers from a wedding in neighboring Niger State to Kwara State when it capsized, according to the governor’s office and local state police, without specifying the cause.
