Metropolis Report –
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources State Minister Nasrul Hamid said Thursday that the country has 10 years’ worth of natural gas reserves as it produces an average of 2.2 billion cubic feet of gas every day.
This was said by the State Minister during a question-and-answer session at Jatiya Sansad in Dhaka while answering a question posed by Mymensingh-11’s Kazim Uddin Ahmed.
The session was chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
At present, natural gas is supplied to 30 districts for electricity, captive power generation, industrial fertilizer plants, CNG, and domestic and commercial use through six gas companies such as Titas gas, Bakhrabad gas, Jalalabad gas, Karnaphuly gas, Western gas and Sundarban gas.
He said the country’s gas reserves could expand if new gas sources were discovered. The country’s major gas reserves, including inventories from the redeveloped Ilisha gas field, stand at a total of 40.43 trillion cubic feet, with recoverable gas reserves of 28.76 trillion cubic feet.
Of the recoverable gas, 19.94 trillion cubic feet of gas have already been produced, with remaining reserves of 8.82 trillion cubic feet.
In response to another question, the Secretary of State said that combined local wells and imported LNG would provide nearly 3 billion cubic feet of gas a day.
