Metropolis Report-
On July 20, the Bangladesh government is scheduled to start building its first incineration facility at the Aminbazar dump. The foundation stone will be laid at the location by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Md Tazul Islam, minister of local government, rural development, and cooperatives, revealed this on Thursday.
For a project to produce electricity from garbage, the government and the China Machinery Engineering Corporation entered into a deal in 2021.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) would acquire power from the power plant over the course of the following 25 years.
Construction of the power plant is expected to cost roughly $300 million. The electricity produced by the plant will be directly purchased by the Power Division.
The government has an agreement with a Chinese company to provide 3,000 tonnes of mixed garbage daily, which will be sent to the facility after being screened to remove building materials and waste from both people and animals.
The cost of the electricity produced from waste will be roughly Tk 21, and the government would buy it. According to the LGRD minister, trash production has expanded significantly in both urban and rural areas, and the nation faces peril unless the additional waste is effectively managed.
According to State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, the execution of the project using foreign financing will enhance the nation’s power sector.
