The Bangladesh Railway (BR) asked India for a more detailed explanation of how its trains will pass through Bangladesh.
A freight train via Bangladesh from West Bengal’s Gede to Haldibari was the Indian Railways’ suggested test run.
India received a letter from the Bangladesh Railway requesting a detailed proposal and confirmation of whether transit facilities are required.
Gede-Darshana-Ishwardi-Abdulpur-Parbatipur-Chilahati-Haldibari is the intended route. The commerce ministry was consulted over the possibility of shipping commodities to Nepal and Bhutan via India by train.
Before approving the Indian plan, officials from the foreign, home, and commerce ministries stressed several additional issues that need to be settled.
Trains from one section of West Bengal to another will be run by India if facilities for rail transit across Bangladesh are permitted.
If India receives a transshipment facility, Indian trains will approach one border before being transported by BR trains to a different border, depending on the situation.
Bangladesh and India continue to have cordial relations, and Bangladesh aims to become a linking hub.
