Metropolis Desk-
To conduct scientific research in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean, Bangladesh, and India are getting ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This research will be focused on topics like monsoon and climate change, air-sea interaction, ocean processes, circulation, biogeochemistry, ecosystem characteristics, marine biology, sedimentology, marine sedimentary processes, marine pollution, and paleo-oceanography and tectonics.
The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) of India and the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) will both sign the MoU.
Research collaboration is outlined in the agreement in the areas of monsoon and climate change, air-sea interaction, ocean processes, circulation, dynamics, biogeochemistry, ecosystem characteristics, marine biology, sedimentology, marine sedimentary processes, marine pollution, and paleo-oceanography and tectonics.
Additionally, the MoU stipulates that while data and samples gathered during the research may be shared between the two nations, they cannot be given to a third party or used for commercial gain.
The Indian Biodiversity Act of 2002 and the Bangladesh Biodiversity Act of 2017 or comparable national laws would govern the interchange of biological materials.
The two nations will split the cost of the research and share ownership of any publications or papers that are produced as a consequence of the study.
