The Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant, the biggest sewage treatment facility in all of South Asia, will be opened by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.

The facility will protect the rivers near the city from contamination by treating 5 million metric tonnes of sewage per day.

By 2030, four more sewage treatment facilities are expected to be built by the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

By enhancing waste management systems all around the nation, the plant is anticipated to assist in achieving SDG Goal-6.

The Chinese-funded initiative benefits the environment, the Balu River, and the community. As a result, treated water that is fit for human consumption flows into the river.

The China-funded project cost Tk 3,482.42 crore to complete and was built on 62.2 acres of land.
