A bus accident in Jhalakathi Sadar upazila resulted in the deaths of 17 people and injuries of 23 others.
The accident occurred in front of the Dhanshiri Union parishad office at 9:45 am. The death toll may rise.
Fire Service and Civil Defence members rushed to the scene and started a rescue operation.
The motor vehicle inspector reported that the bus was running at high speed when it skidded off the road and fell into the water body.
The bus has been pulled out from the water body. A passenger said that most of the seats were full and more people were standing inside the vehicle.
