Metropolis Desk-
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Wednesday that he believed a “peace summit” for Ukraine may take place this fall and that this week’s negotiations in Saudi Arabia were a step in the right direction.
In a speech that was posted on the president’s website, Zelensky informed Ukrainian diplomats that the meeting in Jeddah on August 5 and 6 would have representatives from close to 40 nations.
We are attempting to have the summit this fall, he stated.
Autumn is quickly approaching, but there is still time to plan the summit and involve the majority of nations.
To garner broad support for a “peace summit” that would end the war that Russia’s full-scale invasion initiated almost 18 months ago, Zelensky and his team are collaborating with allies.
The conference would expand on a 10-point proposal presented by Kyiv in the fall of last year, which Zelensky has aggressively advocated. His plan for peace includes, among other things, the complete restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the complete departure of Russian forces, the safeguarding of nuclear safety, the security of food and energy, and the release of all detainees.
There is still no agreement on the summit’s location.
Officials from Ukraine and the West have stated that Russia will not be present at the conference.
