Metropolis Desk-

A police spokesman has reported that at least 30 people have died and 100 have been hurt when a train derailed in southern Pakistan.

Around 275 kilometers (171 miles) from Karachi, the Hazara Express’s major city, several of its carriages overturned near the Sahara railway station in Nawabshah.

The injured were sent to hospitals in the area. Rescue teams are making an effort to extract victims from the mangled wreckage.

There are often mishaps in Pakistan’s outdated rail network.

The train was moving at a regular speed, according to preliminary investigations, according to Saad Rafiq, the minister of railways, who added that they were attempting to determine what caused the derailment.

A representative for Pakistan’s railways in Karachi claimed that at least eight carriages were off the track.

Local broadcaster Geo said that some people were still confined to a train car.

One confused woman who was pulled from a carriage as others were being transported by ambulance remarked, “We don’t know what happened, we were just sitting inside.”

In Nawabshah and surrounding Sindh districts, an emergency has been declared at all of the major hospitals.

Several people are seen at the scene of the disaster in social media videos, and some passengers can be seen getting out of the wrecked carriages.

Train service to Sindh’s interior areas has been halted.

The government’s primary priority, according to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon to BBC News, is “the rescue work, which we are focused on.”

In the province of Sindh, two trains collided in 2021, resulting in at least 40 fatalities and numerous injuries.

150 people perished in such instances between 2013 and 2019, according to local media sources.
