Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told US congressmen Ed Case and Richard McCormick that a consensus cannot be reached due to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s demand for the government to step down.
The US delegation, including US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas, held a meeting with the BNP, Awami League, Jatiya Party, and other political parties.
The BNP reiterated its call for holding the upcoming national election under an interim caretaker government, emphasizing that a free and fair election cannot be held under a partisan government.
The BNP also highlighted that previous elections were held under a partisan government and were not conducted fairly.
The US delegation also met with civil society members, who expressed that the current political issue can only be solved through talks, not force.
