Bangladesh’s next top justice has been named, according to news agency BSS, Justice Obaidul Hassan.
In accordance with Article 95(1) of the Constitution, President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment, according to a gazette notification published on Tuesday. The appointment will take effect on the day he takes his oath of office, according to the gazette signed by Md. Golam Sarwer, Secretary of the Law and Justice Division.
The 23rd Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique will be replaced by Justice Obaidul Hassan on September 25.
Obaidul Hassan graduated from the University of Dhaka with a BSS (Hons), an MSS (Economics), and an LL.B.
On 18 March 1986, 18 October 1988, and 15 August 2005, respectively, Justice Obaidul registered as an advocate with the district court, the High Court Division, and the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

On September 3, 2020, Justice Obaidul Hassan was promoted to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
He handed down a number of decisions, such as the one concerning Arpita Sompotti Ain and the appointment of justices to the High Court Division.
He took part in a training program called “Judicial Governance Programme” that was held in Singapore in July 2015, as well as an international conference that was held in Hong Kong in 1991.
Obaidul Hassan also participated in a program to exchange views with the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the Hague, Netherlands in August 2015, as well as an international conference on “international crimes/state crimes” in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His travels took him to Saudi Arabia, China, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Dubai, and Turkey.
