Nipah Virus Causes 2 Deaths in Kerala; Center Sends Team for Help

Metropolis Desk-

Mansukh Mandaviya, the union health minister, revealed today that two persons have passed away in Kerala’s Kozhikode district as a result of the Nipah virus. After two “unnatural” deaths were reported from a private hospital yesterday, a district-wide health alert was issued. This confirmation came shortly after that.

According to Mr. Mandaviya, “a central team sent to Kerala to take stock of the situation and aid the state government in Nipah virus management.”

The first death occurred on August 30, and the second death occurred on August 31, according to news agency PTI.

As a precaution, the Keralan government has recommended citizens to wear masks and set up a control room in Kozhikode.

Earlier that day, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged prudence and reassured the public that there was no cause for concern because individuals who had direct touch with the victims were receiving treatment.

There is no need for concern. The two are being located and treated, as are anyone who came into contact with them. The secret to handling the problem is caution. The Chief Minister urged everyone to support the action plan created by the health department.

In 2018 there was an outbreak of the Nipah virus in the districts of Kozhikode and Malappuram, and in 2021 Kozhikode reported a case of the Nipah virus.

The World Health Organization or WHO states that fruit bats are the source of the Nipah virus, which can be lethal to both humans and animals. It is also known to produce fever, headache, nausea, dizziness, and muscular pain in addition to respiratory sickness.
