The United States announced that nine Americans died in the conflict between Israel and Hamas on Monday. It added that there may be more Americans missing, raising concerns that they may have been abducted.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated, “At this point, we can confirm the deaths of nine US citizens.
“We can confirm that there are unaccounted for US citizens, and we are working with our Israeli partners to determine their whereabouts.”
Miller stated that US officials “continue to monitor the situation carefully and remain in contact with our Israeli partners and the local authorities. The violence has claimed the lives of dozens of foreigners, including citizens of Thailand, Nepal, Ukraine, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Cambodia.
Israel has recorded almost 700 fatalities as a result of its withering bombardment of airstrikes over Gaza, which has claimed 560 lives. This is after Hamas launched its unprecedented ground, air, and sea assaults.
As it continued to bomb targets in the Palestinian enclave earlier today in reaction to the surprise onslaught by Hamas that it has compared to the 9/11 attacks, Israel placed a total siege on the Gaza Strip and cut off the water supply.
