Foreign policy leader Josep Borrell of the EU indicated that urgent discussions on the situation in Israel and Gaza will take place on Tuesday.
In a social media post on Monday, Borrell stated, “I am calling an urgent meeting of EU Foreign Ministers to discuss the situation in Israel and the region.”
Borrell and several other EU foreign ministers are presently in Oman for discussions with Gulf governments from the Gulf Cooperation Council that have been long-planned.
To allow foreign ministers who were not in Muscat to participate, a spokesman in Brussels said that the EU discussions will take place in a hybrid video and in-person format.
According to two Egyptian security sources on Monday, Egypt has been in regular touch with Israel and Hamas to stop the conflict between the two sides from getting worse and to safeguard the safety of Israeli citizens held captive by Palestinian militants.
Even if repeated Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip made mediation challenging, Egypt has asked Israel to display patience and Hamas to hold its detainees in excellent health to maintain the chance of a de-escalation soon, according to the sources, who spoke on usual condition of anonymity.
In the attack that has left Israel in disarray and spurred worries of a wider escalation in the area, more than 700 Israelis have been slain and at least 100 kidnapped.
Palestinian officials report that 493 individuals have died as a result of Israel’s retaliatory bombing campaign in Gaza.
