UNFPA: 50 Thousand Pregnant Women in Gaza Enduring Nightmare

Metropolis Desk-

Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the state of Palestine, Dominic Allen, has stated that around fifty thousand pregnant women in Gaza are facing a “nightmare” situation since the healthcare system there is about to collapse.

He told CNN that roughly 5,000 of the 50,000 pregnant women are anticipated to give birth in the upcoming month and that some may experience difficulties.

“Imagine going through that process in those final stages and your last trimester before giving birth, with possible complications, without clothing, without hygiene, support, and not sure about what the next day, next hour, next minute will bring for themselves and their unborn child,” Allen explained.

News from hospitals has been “harrowing,” according to Allen.

One midwife at a Gaza maternity facility informed Allen that because of the dangerous conditions in the maternity ward, some midwives have not been able to go there to offer aid since the start of the conflict, according to CNN.

“Humanitarian supplies and aid going to Gaza must be permitted.” Humanitarian law must be followed, and a humanitarian corridor must be established. Therefore, expectant mothers need to have access to life-saving medical care, according to Allen.
