Citing its intention to keep up contact with Bangladesh through its embassy in New Delhi, North Korea has shuttered its mission in Bangladesh.
“The decision of the North Korean embassy being closed down was communicated to the foreign ministry through a note recently. The embassy closed down since November 20,” a foreign ministry official told.
To better manage and run their operations in the region from their New Delhi mission, the letter orally stated that they are closing the embassies in Bangladesh and Nepal.
Before departing on November 20, North Korean Ambassador Pak Song Yop and three other diplomats were stationed in Dhaka.
Bangladesh maintains diplomatic ties via its embassy in China and does not have a presence in North Korea.
The representative of the foreign ministry responded, “We don’t have any notable trade relations,” when asked if Bangladesh would be impacted in any way by the closure of the embassy. We work together with international organizations or the UN most of the time. Thus, it would have no bearing on us.”
