As part of the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock welcomed the release of 11 hostages from Gaza on Monday, including “two German teenagers.”
“After enduring pain and hopelessness for fifty-two days, their mother can embrace them once more.
“My thoughts are with the fearfully waiting families. Baerbock wrote on X, the former Twitter platform, “We are doing everything we can so that they too can hold them in their arms.”
With the two hostages’ release on Monday, Hamas has now freed ten German passport holders in total; four were freed on Friday and four more on Saturday.
In addition, Baerbock praised Hamas for announcing an extension of the truce, saying it would give “precious time for our aid to reach the people of Gaza.”
“Moreover, it’s a ray of hope to ensure that we don’t lose sight of the possibilities: tangible steps toward a safe future for every individual in the area.”
