Metropolis Report-
In the early hours of today, a fire at a slum in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar killed a woman and a child and injured several more.
There was a delay in learning the deceased’s identity.
Anwarul Islam, the media cell’s warehouse inspector for Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated that the fire started at the Mollabari slum close to the Film Development Corporation (FDC) at around 2:23 in the morning.
The warehouse inspector stated that, according to information, 13 fire engines put out the fire at 5:50 am.
He said that the two bodies were later recovered by the firefighters.
Lt Col Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director of operations and maintenance for the fire service, briefed reporters on the scene that the fire destroyed at least 300 shanties and insured several more.
He claimed that because the rooms were constructed of tin, bamboo, and wood, the fire spread quickly and that some of the rooms were dismantled to put out the flames.
When asked what causes most fire incidents in slums, the fire official replied that gas line leaks or electric short circuits are the main culprits.
Since slum dwellers have brought up both possibilities, we suspect any one of the two reasons in this case. We’ll carry out a comprehensive investigation,” he declared.
