Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially open the largest book fair in the nation tomorrow at the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises. The Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2024 is scheduled to run for one month.
“Tomorrow at 3:00 pm, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to open the fair,” announced poet and director general of the Bangla Academy Muhammad Nurul Huda.
In addition to revealing the covers of several books, including “Collected Works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: Volume-2,” published by Bangla Academy, the premier will also present the winners with the Bangla Academy Literary Award-2023.
“Paro Boi, Garo Desh: Bangabandhu Bangladesh (Read Book, build country: Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh)” is the theme of this year’s book fair. The fair is being organized by Bangla Academy.
635 organizations have been given 937 stalls at the book fair. On the Bangla Academy grounds, the authorities have given 173 stalls to 120 organizations, and at the Suhrawardy Udyan, they have given 764 stalls to 515 organizations.
Additionally, 37 pavilions in total have been allotted for this year.
A total of 901 stalls were allotted to 601 organizations last year.
Drawing, music, and recitation competitions are among the events planned for kids and teenagers, in addition to cultural programs and seminars lasting a month.
According to the organizers, stall allocation for previously enlisted and recently enlisted publications was completed on January 23 via a digital lottery system.
According to Mujahidul, the book unwrapping and “Lekhak Bolchi” stages will be set up on the grounds of Suhrawardi Udyan, while the main stage of the fair will remain located on the Bangla Academy premises, as in previous years.
In the Sadhu Shanga neighborhood, next to the Ramna Kali Temple, a “Shishu Chattar” has also been installed.
With a one-hour break for lunch and prayers, the book fair will be open to everyone from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on weekdays and from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on public holidays.
