The Palestinians’ request to join the UN as a full member state will be put to a vote by the UN Security Council on Thursday, multiple diplomatic sources told AFP.
The Palestinians submitted a membership application to the world organization in 2011, but the veto-wielding United States has stated that it is opposed to the plan. This was done in the midst of Israel’s offensive in Gaza in early April.
