Imran Khan, the former prime minister and founder of the PTI, issued a nationwide warning to the government on Monday, threatening to call for protests if the government continued to raise the price of gas and electricity.
Imran Khan told the reporters in Adiala jail that Pakistan’s economy could not be stabilized until the government was constituted in line with the people’s will.
He thought that in June and July, additional taxes would cause the economy to become unstable. He claimed that because debt servicing accounted for the majority of tax revenue, investors shied away from investing in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media about the GBP 190 million corruption issue, Khan declared that, unlike President Asif Ali Zardari and previous prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he would not look to strike a bargain to leave the nation. He said that while President Zardari was requesting immunity in this case, Sharif was being cleared in the Toshakhana vehicle issue.
He said that although NAB was putting up another Toshakhana reference against him, no one was asking Hassan Nawaz, who sold Malik Riaz land for Rs 18 billion, for an explanation.
In reference to the graft case, Khan stated that the sum transferred from Malik Riaz’s account yielded a profit of Rs 13 billion for the SC. He said that Malik Riaz’s funds were frozen by the UK government due to an allegedly suspicious transaction. He said that over $100 million in assets belonging to Pakistani people were already entangled in legal disputes in other nations and that if he had brought a lawsuit before a civil court in the UK, the money would have remained in the legal system for several years.
He explained that for this reason, the cabinet approved an out-of-court settlement, and at the UK’s National Crime Agency’s request, the agreement was kept secret.
When asked about the show-cause notice that PTI firebrand leader Sher Afzal Khan Marwat received, the founding chairman stated that it was sent due to a breach of the party’s discipline. He claimed that although Marwat had received repeated advice not to break party rules, he continued to insult party officials on a biweekly basis.
Furthermore, he said, Marwat made a contentious remark while a Saudi delegation was in Pakistan.
