On the removal of trees from the sides of the planned six-lane Jashore-Narail roadway, the High Court today upheld the status quo.
However, the court stated that if the construction of the six-lane Jashore-Narail road project is put out to bid, the status quo order will be declared null and void.
In response to a writ suit filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) requesting required orders, the HC panel of Justices Md Khasruzzaman and KM Zahid Sarwar issued the order.
The government has taken up the development of the six-lane road between Jashore and Narail, the petitioner’s attorney Manzil Murshid informed the HC.
However, no tender has been requested as of yet to build the route. And yet hundreds of trees are being chopped on either side of the street.
He said that because of the intense heat, it is imperative to cease cutting trees.
Even if people will benefit and trees are conserved, construction on a six-lane road can nonetheless proceed.
