China urges Iran and the United Arab Emirates to use discussion and consultation to settle their problems amicably, a spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday.
Iranian state television said on Sunday that Iran’s foreign ministry had called the Chinese ambassador to Tehran in protest over a China-UAE statement regarding Iran’s sovereignty over three islands that the UAE also claims.
In response to a query about the matter during a routine news briefing, Mao Ning stated, “China’s position on the three islands is consistent.”
