The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire early today in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat, close to the Lohakuchi border, killing a cattle trader from Bangladesh.
Our local correspondent, citing Imtiaz Kabir, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, says that the dead, Nurul Islam, 63, was from the Lohakuchi region.
A letter denouncing this occurrence was written to the Border Security Force (BSF), according to Subedar Manjurul Islam, commander of the Lohakuchi camp of the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) Lalmonirhat-15 Battalion.
BGB and locals report that the incident happened early today when eight or nine Bangladeshis attempted to cross into Indian territory in order to retrieve cattle.
The BSF opened fire on the party at that moment when they were patrolling the Indian side of the West Chamta camp. It was Nurul Islam who was shot.
Nurul’s companions brought him back to Bangladesh. Later, his wounds claimed his life.
Police retrieved Nurul Islam’s body and brought it to the police station based on information.
